Hello! My name is a BK Choi and I am the designer of the new “Love Your New Neighbor” sculpture. I have been passionate about art and design since I was a child, which led me to the University of Washington where I studied design and architecture. My hope for the new sculpture is for it to be a visual reminder that if we can always find a way to work and live together!
The inspiration for my design comes from a Korean handicraft, Pojagi, or quilt. Using a specific type of a Pojagi, called Chogakbo, which means putting together many separate, asymmetric pieces of cloth, to create something harmonious.
For me this project is about building a better society. To do that, you have to start with your neighbors. Especially new neighbors that don’t look or sound like you. It’s essential to welcome these people and give them a sense of community.
